Microsurgery as a subspecialty has started to be known in the late seventies and early eighties of the last century. I’ve started to be interested in this new comer in this field of surgery almost at the same time. Zagazig University was able to run the first microsurgery training workshop in 1981, organized by Prof. Dr. Hassan Gawish. In 1982, I’ve succeeded to establish the first microsurgery training laboratory in the university starting with a small room and only two table surgical microscopes. It was the first training laboratory in the whole country. however, Several surgeons from other universities had trained in this small laboratory.

After spending three year fellowship in the U.S. our laboratory has expanded gradually and the number of training units has increased. In 1994 we were able to held the first formal Microsurgery Training Workshop for 12 surgeons from different parts of the country. Since then our training program has continued and never stopped over the years.
Over the last 30 years ZUMHC has never stopped its activities towards teaching, promoting and practicing microsurgery. Hundreds of surgeons from Egypt and almost all Arab Countries have attended one or more courses and many of them have spent longer periods of fellowship in the center before returning back to their countries and hospitals, to start their first clinical experience in practicing microsurgery. At the same time, thousands of patients had the chance to benefit from microsurgical procedures in different parts of their bodies.
In the same time, our center has expanded from a small room to a huge building over 1500 m² (one of the biggest in the world), to be able to accommodate the great variety of services for our patients and all surgeons from the whole Arab world.
I would like to welcome you on line through our site to shane with us our unique experience and to be one of our friends
